Summary: Water is where Europe feels climate change first — droughts, floods, wildfires and pressure on drinking-water supply. European institutions are therefore investing heavily in water infrastructure and resilience. AQUA-ECO-TERRA focuses on expert knowledge in water, environmental risk and climate adaptation.
The European context
The European Investment Bank finances projects ranging from expanded access to drinking water and sanitation (e.g. a €175 million investment in Spain’s Costa del Sol region) to early wildfire-detection systems combining satellite data with artificial intelligence. The European Commission is advancing the mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters” and the EU climate-adaptation framework.
Where our expertise lies
Water treatment and protection, groundwater remediation, environmental and health-risk assessment, multi-hazard resilience and risk communication. Our experience spans large-scale remediation projects and the evaluation of research and innovation proposals in water and climate.
Why connect water, landscape and health
Water quality cannot be separated from the state of soil and landscape, or from human health. Drought concentrates pollution, floods mobilise contaminants, extreme heat burdens vulnerable groups. We therefore understand resilience holistically — as a property of both territory and society.
Limitations
We do not operate water or any other critical infrastructure; our role is expert, evaluative and educational.
